Khartoum, October (Sudanow) - the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority and the French Solar euro-Mid Company have signed a contract worth 1.3 billion Euros to produce 250 megawatts of solar energy for the three states of Darfur.
The memo of understanding was signed by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority (TDRA) and the French Solar Euro-Mid Company, which is specializing solar energy technology, in the presence of the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Eissa Bashari, and representatives of the Ministries of Finance and Electricity and Dams
Addressing the signing ceremony Dr. Bashari said that the electricity project due to be implemented in Darfur would be one of the largest of its kind globally.
He said that the clean electricity project will boost the development process and the service and will contribute to providing work opportunities for the people of Darfur.
The representative of the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority (TDRA), Dr. Ahmed Al-Tigani, said that the implementation of project will address one of the root causes of Darfur issue on ground that energy represents the backbone for realizing development and enhancing the citizens' living conditions.
Meanwhile, chairman of the French Solar Euro-Mid Company said that implementation of the project was part of an agreement signed with the government of Sudan to produce 2000 megawatts of solar energy
He said that the implementation of the solar power project for Darfur would be finalized in the year 2015. He said that Sudan is qualified to provide the neighboring countries with the electricity power generated by the solar energy.
